How we work

A coordination-first approach to protecting, growing and passing your wealth.

Where we start

We do not start with a fund, policy or investment. We start by understanding how the structures, strategies and professional relationships you already have work together, and where they do not.

Your accountant may be working on tax strategy and your lawyer on estate documents. Your insurance may have been arranged years ago, and your investments may sit somewhere else. Each can be sound on its own while the overall plan still has gaps.

The most common gap we find is not a missing product. It is a missing connection. The pieces were set up at different times, by different people, on different assumptions, and nobody has checked whether they still line up.

Personal and family advice

What working with us looks like

  1. 1

    Start with your situation

Request a consultation and we reply within one business day. Your first meeting is a 30-minute online conversation with Sangram Rana. Bring any policy schedules or agreements you would like looked at.

  2. 2

    Agree the scope

If we can add value, we set out what the advice will cover, and the fee, in an engagement letter before any work begins.

  3. 3

    Build the advice

We analyse your structures, model the decisions where that is part of the agreed scope, and set out our advice in writing, with a Statement of Advice where required. We then take you through it in a meeting.

  4. 4

    Put it into action

We implement the advice and coordinate with your accountant, lawyer and product providers so each part lines up.

Ongoing advice is available where it adds value. It is not a condition of working with us.

MyWealth Direction

The level of advice depends on what you need

Our personal and family advice comes at three service levels. They match the scope and complexity of the advice you need. They are not stages you move through.

Core

A focused decision or a limited scope.

Ongoing, if chosen: an annual review, an update to your existing projection, questions about your existing advice and agreed routine servicing.

Plus

Connected decisions across super, investments, debt, property or business.

Ongoing, if chosen: annual and mid-year reviews, agreed scenario comparisons and more coordination with your other professionals.

Private

Complex family wealth, several structures and substantial coordination.

Ongoing, if chosen: quarterly reviews, a family financial decision agenda, agreed modelling updates and more extensive coordination with your other professionals.

Your initial and ongoing service levels can differ.

Bespoke mandates

For complex family wealth and for‑purpose organisations

We work this way with families with significant or complex wealth, family offices, agricultural families, not-for-profit organisations, charities, private ancillary funds (PAFs) and philanthropic foundations.

These engagements are scoped around the mandate rather than a standard advice process. Depending on the work, a mandate may include:

  • Strategic advice across the family's or organisation's structures
  • Investment governance, including investment and reserves policies
  • Family financial decision-making and succession planning
  • Reporting on the agreed scope
  • Coordination with your existing accountant, lawyer and other professionals

The engagement structure, documentation, reporting and fee are agreed in writing before any work begins.

Advice led by Sangram

Your strategy and key advice meetings are led by Sangram Rana, with the Build MyWealth team supporting analysis, preparation and implementation.

How fees work

A fixed dollar fee. Agreed before we start.

For personal and family advice, your annual fee is a fixed dollar amount agreed in advance. It does not rise because your investments grow.

We quote one fee for the agreed household scope. Fees are not automatically doubled for couples.

Bespoke mandates are scoped and priced separately. Whichever way we work, your fee, and exactly what it covers, is confirmed in writing before any work begins.

Alongside your other advisers

We work with your existing accountant, lawyer and other advisers rather than replacing relationships that already work. Our job is to bring the financial strategy together so the tax, legal, insurance and investment pieces support each other.

Common questions

Do I have to become an ongoing client?

No. Ongoing advice is available where it adds value. It is agreed separately, in an ongoing service agreement.

Do you work with not-for-profit boards, charities and foundations?

Yes. These engagements are set up as bespoke mandates, scoped around what the organisation needs, such as investment governance, reserves policy and coordination with its other advisers.

Will you work with my accountant and lawyer?

Yes. We work alongside your existing accountant, lawyer and other advisers, and coordinate with them so each part of the plan lines up.

Who will I meet with?

Your first meeting is a 30-minute online conversation with Sangram Rana, Principal Financial Adviser. Your strategy and key advice meetings are led by Sangram.

How are fees agreed?

The scope and the fee are confirmed in writing before any advice work begins.

Do your fees increase when my investments grow?

Not for personal and family advice. Your annual fee is a fixed dollar amount agreed in advance and does not rise because your investments grow. Bespoke mandates are scoped and priced separately.
