Build MyWealth by Sangram Rana · Episode 1
A developer offers your family $100 million for the farm. What do you actually own?
A farming family receives an approach from a developer for an amount they never imagined. The obvious question is, should we take it? That is not where Sangram would start. His first question: what do you actually own?
Episode 1 is released on Tuesday 20 October 2026.

The problem
Significant wealth does not mean an organised financial position. Land, a business, super, investments, debt and different entities, and nobody has ever put the complete picture in one place.
Before accepting an offer, investing proceeds or restructuring anything, the family needs to establish where it stands today and who needs to be around the table.
Built on screen in the episode
The one-page family position
Own
Every asset, and whose name or structure it sits in.
Owe
Every debt, and what it is secured against.
Control
Who makes the decisions for each structure.
Protected
What is insured, and what happens if somebody dies.
Ownership and control matter
Two families can appear equally wealthy and be in completely different situations depending on where assets sit, who owns them, who controls the structures and what happens if somebody dies.
Scale it down
You don't need a $100 million farm for this to matter. The numbers change, the discipline doesn't.
The takeaway
Before answering the exciting question, sell, invest or restructure, make sure you can see the complete position first.
What this episode answers
Why should a family not start with the offer itself?
Because the offer is only one decision. Before deciding whether to sell, the family needs to see what it owns, what it owes, who controls each asset and structure, and what is protected. Without that picture, any answer to the offer is a guess.
What does a family actually own when assets sit across different names and structures?
Each asset belongs to whoever holds it: an individual, a trust, a company or a super fund. The family's real position is the total of those holdings, less what is owed against them. Listing every asset next to the name or structure that holds it is the first step.
Who controls the decision, and who needs to be around the table?
Control sits with whoever holds the decision-making role in each structure, such as the trustees, the directors or the individual owners. They, and the family's accountant and lawyer, need to be around the table before any decision is made.
What belongs on a one-page family position?
Four things: what the family owns, what it owes, who controls each part, and what is protected, including insurance and what happens if somebody dies.
Why does the same discipline matter at $5 million, $500,000 and $50,000?
Because the questions are the same at any size. A household with $500,000 can still have super in several places, cover nobody has checked and assets in the wrong names. The numbers change, the discipline doesn't.
